The Gift of Christmas Peace

Christmas PeaceIt is now a tradition to post our “The Gift of Christmas Peace” video the day after Thanksgiving. (Isn’t this when the Christmas season officially begins?!) So, we are continuing with this yearly event of making the video available now.

Please be sure to share it with your family and friends. Our goal is to give as many people as possible a peaceful interlude, especially with all the busy-ness that’s about to ensue during the month of December. May it touch you … and here’s to your Christmas Peace.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving - 2I love the Thanksgiving holiday, do you? It is a much simpler holiday than Christmas …

  • Thanksgiving is not about gift-giving, but gratitude for our bountiful gifts!
  • There’s not “pressure” of extra Christmas baking and goody-making, yet a delicious meal with family gathered.
  • No massive house transformations with Christmas decorations, but tasteful autumn décor.

Here’s wishing you and your family a beautiful holiday filled with gratitude…Happy Thanksgiving!

Keep It Simple …

During the month of December, I had the opportunity to go to Salt Lake City and see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas production. And a production it was! They had two special guests and over-the-top theatrics. The only thing missing was the Choir actually singing Christmas carols … really!

While it was entertaining, I was disappointed to not experience the simple beauty of this timeless music by this awesome Choir. Traveling to Salt Lake City to see this Choir was on my “bucket list,” so I feel blessed to have had this experience. But it was also a reminder that simplicity is still much-needed in our culture, especially during the month of December and throughout the holiday season.

While we just finished the holidays, I am already booking Advent gigs for 2014. They will be focused on beautiful Christmas carols, meditative readings and touching stories. Contact me if you are interested in booking a holiday gig now.

A Special Christmas Gift

Every Christmas, I get a parcel mailed to me from my dear Aunt Marg in Kearney, Nebr.  She is my Dad’s sister and they have always been emotionally close. (My Aunt is #3 and my Dad is #4 of 13 children – there is approximately 18 months between them. They went to school together and were very active in “raising” many of the younger siblings.)

Last Christmas when I opened the big brown box that Aunt Marg sent, it was filled with estate jewelry … it was like a treasure trove of all kinds of costume jewelry.

At the bottom of the box was a pair of light purple ”Snoozies!” socks. Since I live in Minnesota and love purple, I thought these would come in handy. And there was one more box to be opened at the very bottom. On top of a little gray box was a note that read “This is from your Dad when he was in Korea. (He served in the Korean War and was stationed in Tague, South Korea.) I want you to have it, if you want it. If you don’t want it, just send it back. I’m just not sure it will get to you after I am gone. It is very precious to me and I have kept your Dad’s writing inside all these years.”

When I opened the box it was a BEAUTIFUL beaded black velvet purse in impeccable shape (pictured above). My Dad, as a young solider, picked out this special gift for his beloved sister and sent it to her from Korea. Aunt Marg had kept it all these years in its original box, never used it … and now was gifting it to me! I sat on my sofa and sobbed – I was so touched.

The next day I was flying to Kentucky to be with my parents for Christmas and while I was there, I did a Christmas harp concert for the assisted living residents where my parents live. At the end of the concert, I surprised my Dad with this story and showed him/the audience this little black purse. I was so emotional as I shared this lovely story with the group and my dear Dad sat on the front row and cried right along with me … it is one of the most meaningful, heart-felt gifts I’ve ever received and a very special moment in a presentation with my dear Dad present.

I have shared this special story with many groups during the past year … I encourage audiences to reflect on the very special gifts they have received and the gifts/talents they give to others.  And I encourage you to do the same …

A beautiful Christmas message…

Last year on Christmas Day, I received the following e-mail:

“My best friend passed away this morning. She was in the hospital unresponsive. I had taken your “Christmas Music for Tranquility” CD to her yesterday; her family played it early this morning. The whole CD played and as the CD player shut off, my friend took her last breath. Her daughters told me it was beautiful. I’m getting a CD for both of the daughters. Thank you for your beautiful music.”

I am deeply touched and humbled by this beautiful message. I feel so blessed to create music that touches your heart and soul.

Think Christmas … already!

As a young child, I remember my parents saying, usually around the New Year, “The year had gone so fast.”  At the time, it didn’t mean much to me. Now, without sounding too cliché, time goes so fast! And this year is no exception.

November 1 marks the beginning of holiday preparation … wasn’t it just November 1, 2010?!  Yes, it’s been a fast year … if Musical Reflections can help with your holiday gifts, we’d be happy to assist.
